PINT BILL ADDS A NEW SPONSOR WITH SC BEER ROOTS

The Pint Bill has added a new sponsor. On Thursday, Representative Bill Herbkersman added himself as a sponsor to H. 3554. You can read his bio here: http://www.scstatehouse.gov/member.php?code=832954446&chamber=H

However, what his House bio won’t tell you is that he has quite the history with South Carolina beer. He was the sponsor of the original Pop the Cap legislation in 2006, which ended up failing. But he also sponsored the successful subsequent legislation in 2007 that raised South Carolina’s ABV from 6.2% to 17.5%. That bill has contributed greatly to the South Carolina beer culture that we currently enjoy. He also sponsored the first effort to allow tastings at breweries.

Representative Herbkersman was also involved in opening some of the state’s very first modern brewpubs.

All together, he brings quite a lot of experience championing South Carolina beer to this legislation. The bill itself is now in front of the full House of Representatives.
